Don’t Let me Grow up Too Fast

I am trying to grow up too fast for you

But you have made the stupid decision to wait for me to sprout

And the decision was all yours and not mine at all.

So keep your promise or only make promises you can keep.

Not for anyone will I hide from the sun and the scorching days

The heat that will make me wither and die and grow and rise and wither once more

I will make my mistakes, choose my own path and find my own opinions

I will choose to nurture the seed after neglecting it

I will not grow up too fast for anyone.

I will prioritise finding myself and being 18.

I will follow my own advice not all of theirs.

I will be unstable because that is who I am and that is what you have chosen.

I will never wear a mask.

When you ask why I’m scared.

It is because I understand the gravity of this hardship and challenge

And I fear you do not.

It is almost unbelievable that I am still here, but I am.

I dump some of my raw, unedited thoughts, emotions and ideas here, some refined ones too. It’s a bit of a chaotic, wonderful, mess. Dare to venture within?
