Everyone has them, most people impose them and we are bombarded by these every single day. We as an individualistic, narcissistic society think that our opinions frankly are “up there” and deserve to be heard. This is actually one of the urges of the Nafs — you know that impulse to speak in a conversation and hear your voice, that is actually giving in to the nafs. We have two ears and a mouth for a reason. It is not from the sunnah to always speak and want to be heard. We will never reach a point where we no longer need to listen. Always prioritise listening rather than speaking.

For one of the first times in history — we are faced with a challenge through social media, a platform that lets our opinions be heard. Speaking to a camera and having an outlet can be very powerful and applauded however one we cannot underestimate its gravity of if misused. Everything you put out to the world, even if it isn’t through social media — just the words you speak is an amanah — who are you influencing? What views are you spreading? Is this going against Islam? Is this false information? Does this bring more harm than good?

I dump some of my raw, unedited thoughts, emotions and ideas here, some refined ones too. It’s a bit of a chaotic, wonderful, mess. Dare to venture within?
